Curso sobre proyectos de I+D para los Centros Tecnológicos de Murcia
The European Commission in its Green Paper of 2001 “Promoting a European framework for corporate social responsibility”, defines that concept as:
“The voluntary integration, on the part of companies, of social and environmental concerns in their commercial operations and their relations with their interlocutors”. […]
“Corporate social responsibility is, essentially, a concept according to which companies voluntarily decide to contribute to achieving a better society and cleaner environment”
Therefore, Corporate Social Responsibility is understood to include three basic aspects, which are: economic responsibility, social responsibility and environmental responsibility.
Antara is committed to these principles and aims at incorporating the elements put forward in various publications into its management. Hence, we have for some time been reflecting upon issues related with the different aspects of CSR:
An internal project in which the aim is to measure the quality of life of the staff, and include that marker in the Integrated Balanced Score Card of the company, has been implemented. At the beginning of 2005, the marker has been designed and life quality data are automatically gathered, whilst work is being undertaken in integrating the information into the Balanced Score Card.
One of the main objectives of this marker will be to facilitate the conciliation of the working and personal life of the workers, especially in timetabling flexibility and the physical work post. So, no restrictions have been placed on a totally flexible timetable, and the possibility of undertaking work at home is being contemplated, whenever that may be convenient.
Here it should be mentioned that the company pays for broadband in the houses of the staff that ask for it. Antara hopes that these measures will have a positive impact on conciliating working obligations with care for families and other occupations of personal interest that may allow the general development of people.
Concern for ergonomics in the work post is beginning to form part of our culture, and all staff have not only adjustable chairs, but also height adjustable tables. Improving the physical work post is constantly in our minds, and we endeavour to improve it day-by-day. Moreover, we are especially concerned about achieving an appropriate working atmosphere that is propitious for concentrating, without limiting the possibility of interaction between people. We also have a rest area (our “thinking room”), where it is possible to relax or even hold a more relaxed work meeting.
With an external social approach to the company, antara collaborates with non-profit making organisations, whose operations we consider to be beneficial to society and whose values match the social vision of the company. Hence, antara dedicates part of its profits to contributing to sustaining several of those organisations, such as the Asociación de Caridad de Valencia,(Charity Association of Valencia) or the Gran Associación de Beneficencia.
From an environmental point of view, we are trying to reduce energy consumption, and we should stress something that we are particularly proud of: we consume less than a packet of A4 folios per person, per year.
